India prioritizes humanitarian matters with Pakistan
India and Pakistan just swapped lists of prisoners and fishermen held in each other's jails—part of a rare agreement that still works even when everything else is on pause.
India shared details of 382 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen it believes are Pakistani, while Pakistan listed 53 civilians and 193 fishermen thought to be Indian.
Jails are tough even for families to navigate
Even with trade and visas mostly frozen, this twice-a-year exchange is one way the two countries keep talking.
It's about basic rights—making sure people stuck in foreign jails aren't forgotten.
India wants Pakistan to speed up sending home 80 Pakistani detainees from its jails, and also release 159 Indians who've already served their time.
Since 2014, over 2,600 Indian fishermen have made it back home through efforts like this—a small reminder that even rivals can find common ground on human issues.
