India seeks rare earth alternatives to reduce China dependence

India is making moves to rely less on China for rare earth minerals—the stuff that powers everything from smartphones to electric cars.
To do this, India's talking with countries like Australia and some in Latin America, hoping to shake up the fact that China currently controls most of the world's supply and processing.

Why rare earths matter and India's situation

Rare earths are a big deal for tech, robots, and even defense gear.
Even though India has about 6.9 million tons of these minerals underground, it can't get much out yet because of tech hurdles and not-so-great refining setups.
That's why India is teaming up with places like Kazakhstan and rolling out plans like the National Critical Minerals Mission—so we're not left behind in the global tech race.
