India temporarily bans Telegram until June 22 over NEET-UG leak
Telegram is temporarily banned in India until June 22 after officials linked it to leaked NEET-UG 2026 exam papers.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology acted on the National Testing Agency's advice, but the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) says the ban is too extreme and not justified.
Internet Freedom Foundation challenges Telegram ban
IFF argues that blocking an entire app goes against India's information technology laws, which only allow specific content to be blocked, not whole platforms.
They also objected to a rule forcing Telegram to turn off message editing for Indian users.
Quoting a Supreme Court case, IFF wants the ban lifted immediately.
Meanwhile, Telegram's CEO claims Reliance disrupted access outside India, hinting at rivalry with WhatsApp as a possible reason.
