Indian Railways to quadruple 7 major routes to ease congestion
India
Big news for train travelers: Indian Railways is gearing up to massively expand its network by quadrupling seven major routes.
This upgrade targets the busiest lines, like those connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, to ease crowding and speed up both passenger and freight trains.
Indian Railways to add 1,000-plus trains
More than 1,000 additional regular trains are set to hit the tracks, which should help clear up long waiting lists and make booking tickets a lot easier.
In the last decade alone, 36,000km of new track have already been added.
The government says this is all about easing peak congestion from heavy freight movement, particularly coal transportation, alongside high passenger volume, and making sure big cities stay well connected for years to come.
