Indian youth increasingly fall prey to human trafficking: MEA

India

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) says more young Indians are getting trapped by fake job offers, especially in Gulf countries.
Scammers use social media and unregistered agents to lure people with promises of good jobs, but victims often end up being exploited or trafficked abroad.

What's being done about it?

To fight this, the MEA is sending complaints to state police for action and working with cybercrime agencies to crack down on online scams and remove shady posts.
They're also reminding everyone that recruiters need a special government license.
For extra safety, ECR passport holders must get clearance before heading to 19 countries.
The eMigrate portal now lists over 3,500 unregistered agents so people can check before trusting anyone.

Support for those already affected

Indian missions in Arab countries have helped resolve nearly 39,000 cases in the past five years—covering issues like wage theft, passport seizures, and bad working conditions.
The MEA says it's committed to protecting Indian emigrants and keeping everyone alert about these risks.
