India's government warehouses: rice 68.43 Mt and wheat 53.41 Mt
India's rice stocks in government warehouses have hit a new milestone: as of June 1, 2026, rice stocks reached 68.43 million metric tons (up 15% from last year), and wheat stocks climbed to 53.41 million metric tons, the highest since 2021.
Both numbers are way above government targets, showing just how big the 2025/26 crop year harvest was.
India's harvest supports exports, steadies prices
This record stash comes from an all-time high in production—154.02 million tons of rice and 120.66 million tons of wheat—thanks to great monsoon rains and the government buying up huge amounts from farmers.
With so much extra grain, India can keep domestic prices steady, support exports (which opened up again in March 2025), and help out global markets if needed.
Basically, it's good news for both local eaters and international buyers.
