IndiGo ordered to refund passengers after mass flight cancelations

India

IndiGo has been told by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to process all pending passenger refunds by 8pm on December 7, after canceling over 1,000 flights in just four days.
With travel plans thrown off for many people, airlines also can't charge rescheduling fees during this period.

What's behind the chaos—and what's being done

Major airports like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad saw big disruptions due to a sudden crew shortage linked to new pilot work rules.
To help stabilize things, the government has temporarily relaxed weekly rest requirements for pilots.
Plus, with ticket prices spiking, MoCA has put temporary fare caps on all airlines until things get back to normal.
