Jaheen Chauhan and imam arrested over Ajmer dargah child marriage
A 27-year-old from Ahmedabad and an imam from Rajasthan have been arrested after allegedly converting a minor girl and marrying her at Ajmer's Khwaja Saheb Dargah in July 2025.
Police say Jaheen Abdul Chauhan falsely claimed the girl was 21 in official records before the marriage.
The case only surfaced recently because the victim's family delayed reporting it, reportedly out of fear.
Chauhan charged, imam arrested for conversion
Chauhan was picked up on June 13 and faces serious charges including kidnapping, aggravated rape, and intimidation under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Imam Mohammad Ramzan Jaanmohammad, who performed the ceremony, was also arrested on June 15 under child marriage and religious conversion laws.
Both are in custody as investigations continue, highlighting ongoing concerns about child marriage and forced conversions in India.
