Karnataka bans feeding, bathing and tightens rules at 14 camps
India
After a tourist was killed by elephants at Dubare Elephant Camp in May, the Karnataka Forest Department has rolled out new rules for all 14 of its camps.
Now, visitors can't feed or bathe the elephants and must keep at least 10 meters away.
The changes aim to make things safer for everyone, both people and animals.
Zones, checks, CCTV and briefings
Camps are now split into zones: Green for tourists, Amber for staff, and Red where only trained handlers go.
Only calm, healthy elephants will be on display after daily checks.
CCTV cameras are being added, entry is staggered in time slots to avoid crowds, and everyone has to attend a safety briefing before heading in.
Plus, each camp will close one day a week for safety reviews and maintenance.
