Karnataka caste survey report coming January 2026

India

Karnataka's big Social and Educational Survey-2025 is almost ready—expect the final report by January 2026.
The state went door-to-door from late September to October, reaching over six crore people out of about 6.85 crore residents.

What went into the survey?

More than 1.5 lakh people helped collect data, with the government spending ₹240 crore so far (most of it paid to those doing the legwork).
The wait for the final report is mainly because some departments still need to send in details about how different communities are represented in government jobs—a key piece expected by December.

Why does this matter?

This isn't just a numbers game—the survey will provide data to help decide which communities get listed as "backward classes," opening up access to benefits and opportunities.
It's a do-over after an old report got scrapped last year following pushback from major groups like Vokkaligas and Lingayats.
For anyone interested in fairness or social change, this update could be a big deal for Karnataka's future.
