Karnataka greenlights Bengaluru business corridor to ease traffic jams
After almost 18 years of waiting, Karnataka has greenlit the Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC)—a massive 73-km ring road that'll loop around the city and link up hotspots like Tumakuru, Yelahanka, Whitefield, Electronics City, and Mysuru Road.
The goal? To ease traffic jams by up to 40% and give folks a real alternative to the busy NICE Road.
What will the BBC look like?
The BBC will be an eight-lane expressway with space reserved for future metro lines.
The Bangalore Development Authority is running the show with funding from HUDCO.
Tenders for construction are expected to be invited by March 2026, with actual construction to begin after sufficient land acquisition and should wrap up in two years once land is sorted.
Landowners can opt for developed plots as compensation
The project covers North Bengaluru (73km) and adds another stretch in the south (44km).
Instead of just cash payouts, landowners can opt for developed or commercial plots as compensation—a move that could save ₹10,000 crore overall.
The road ahead
This long-awaited project isn't just about smoother drives—it's about opening up new parts of Bengaluru for growth after years of delays.
If it works as planned, expect less time stuck in traffic and more opportunities popping up across the city.
