Karnataka issues guidelines teaching medical students respectful cadaver handling
India
Karnataka is rolling out new guidelines to teach medical students how to respectfully handle cadavers, after viral videos showed students elsewhere making inappropriate comments about donated bodies.
Even though nothing like this has happened in Karnataka yet, the state's medical education minister says the move is all about building stronger ethical standards from day one.
Karnataka ethics committee to update guidelines
An ethics committee will review and update these guidelines next week.
The goal: make sure 13,000 students in Karnataka's 72 colleges see body donation as a noble act, not just a lesson.
Cadaver studies are a key part of first-year MBBS courses, so these new rules are meant to help future doctors treat donors with care and keep professional conduct front and center.
