Karnataka unveils Bengaluru region plan to reach $390-$420B by 2037
Karnataka just dropped big plans to boost Bengaluru Metropolitan Region (BMR)'s economy from $149 billion to between $390 billion and $420 billion by 2037.
The focus? Innovation, AI, advanced manufacturing, and making the city more sustainable.
This roadmap was shaped with help from the ISEG Foundation and aims to build on Bengaluru's current role as a tech hub that already supports 3.8 million jobs.
Bengaluru growth centers and transit expansion
To tackle the city's traffic jams and crowding, the plan includes creating new growth centers outside the core areas and expanding public transport: think a 287-kilometer circular rail network and an additional 400-500km of Metro network, plus 100-200km of greenfield Metro corridors and extensions.
If all goes well, these moves could add up to three million more jobs and put Bengaluru on the global map for sustainable urban living.
