Kerala budget omits high speed rail, funds light metro 20cr
Kerala's new budget leaves out the much-discussed high-speed rail project, even after a detailed interim report prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and submitted by technocrat E Sreedharan.
Instead, the focus shifts to Light Metro plans in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, with ₹20 crore set aside just to get things moving.
Kerala funds aviation hub 200cr
While some money is going into road upgrades like the Balaramapuram-Navaikulam Ring Road (₹100 crore), bigger projects such as Sabari Rail and Vizhinjam underground rail are still stuck.
The real excitement? Kerala wants to become an aviation hub—₹200 crore is being pumped into preliminary activities of the proposed hub, with pilot training centers, MRO expansion, and even a new Global Convention Centre.
The goal: boost tourism, jobs, and put Kerala on the global map for travel and logistics.
