Kerala reports 120 Shigella infections, 5 deaths, Nipah contacts negative
India
Kerala has seen 120 new Shigella infections in June, bringing the year's total to 196 and, sadly, five deaths.
Most cases are from Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, and Thiruvananthapuram.
Meanwhile, there is some relief on the Nipah virus front: no new cases have popped up and all tested contacts so far are negative.
Handwashing helps prevent Shigella, Nipah monitored
Shigella spreads easily through contaminated food or water and poor hygiene. It mainly causes diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps:
Washing hands well and using clean water can really help prevent it.
On the Nipah side, one patient is still in the hospital, but health teams are actively supporting contacts with mental health care: 104 people are being monitored just to be safe.
