Kerala woman beats Nipah after 4 months in hospital
A 42-year-old woman from Valancheri, Kerala, just walked out of the hospital after fighting Nipah virus for over four and a half months.
She was admitted in July with seizures and low blood pressure, spent weeks in intensive care isolation, but managed to pull through against tough odds.
Her recovery: slow but hopeful
After two months unconscious, she finally woke up—slowly started moving her limbs and recognizing people again.
Lately, she's been trying to speak and eat regular food.
Doctors have recommended neuro rehab at Kozhikode Government Medical College to help her brain recover from the virus' damage.
It's going to be a long road, but every small step is a win.
What's up with Nipah in Kerala?
Kerala saw three confirmed Nipah cases between May and July this year; sadly, two people didn't make it in July 2025.
The cases popped up in Malappuram and Palakkad districts.
Since 2018, Kerala has faced six outbreaks like this one—a reminder that these viruses can keep coming back if we're not careful.
