Kollam district's 1st 'Lipstick-Free Campus' at Mayyanad Higher Secondary School
Mayyanad Higher Secondary School in Kollam, Kerala, just became the district's first "Lipstick-Free Campus."
The move comes after teachers noticed students using lipstick during school and reapplying it between classes.
Poet Kureepuzha Sreekumar kicked off the campaign, encouraging everyone to value inner beauty instead of relying on cosmetics.
Child Welfare Committee flags cosmetic risks
The Child Welfare Committee behind this initiative says cosmetics can be risky for children: think allergies, hormonal changes, and even long-term health problems because children's skin absorbs chemicals more easily.
Committee secretary Advocate Shine Dev explained that the campaign started due to a rise in cosmetic use among students.
Poet Kureepuzha Sreekumar also pointed out that products like perfumes harm the environment too.
