Kotwali Sadar police blamed monkeys for missing 2007 dowry gold
India
So, gold jewelry stored as evidence in a 2007 dowry death case went missing from the Kotwali Sadar police station store room in Lakhimpur district, Uttar Pradesh.
After the accused husband was acquitted in early 2024, police moved to close the matter and blamed monkeys for scattering the jewelry, saying it was left on the roof to dry back in 2013.
Court ordered probe, family seeks answers
The district court didn't buy the monkey excuse and questioned why gold would be left outside at all.
They ordered an investigation into possible theft and sloppy record-keeping.
Meanwhile, the victim's family says they haven't received any compensation or real answers from authorities, raising bigger questions about how evidence is handled by Uttar Pradesh police.
