Uttar Pradesh, created as the United Provinces during British rule is the most populous state in India. Uttrakhand was carved out from the Himalayan region of UP in 2000 and hence a new state of Uttrakhand was formed. Lucknow is the capital of the state with Hindi being the official language of the state. Yogi Adityanath is the current chief minister of UP.
