Ladakh bans single use plastics, imposes fines up to ₹10,000
Ladakh is getting serious about protecting its stunning landscapes: single-use plastics like cutlery, cups, straws, and thermocol decorations are now banned.
If you're caught using or selling these, or just littering in public places, you could face hefty fines: ₹10,000 for plastics and ₹5,000 for littering.
The move is all about keeping Ladakh clean for both locals and visitors.
CCTV footage used in Leh checks
Officials will run random checks at Leh Airport and other entry points to catch rule-breakers.
Teams with pollution control officers will use closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and even video evidence to enforce the rules.
As Lieutenant Governor Saxena put it, this step is crucial to protect Ladakh's water quality, wildlife, and unique ecosystem, while still letting people enjoy what makes this place special.
