Lancashire cyclist James Lawley killed, Isherwood jailed, Dawson suspended
A tragic crash in Lancashire left 81-year-old cyclist James Lawley dead after he was hit by two cars in 2024.
The first driver, Matthew Isherwood, 28, was using his phone for selfies, messaging, and Instagram just minutes before the accident.
He admitted to causing death by dangerous driving and was jailed for five years and two months.
The second driver, Kevin Dawson, 64, also hit Lawley but didn't stop — he received an eight-month suspended sentence.
Police say Isherwood's Snapchat shows distraction
Police said this accident could have been avoided if Isherwood hadn't been distracted by his phone.
His Snapchat three minutes after the collision, "I've just hit someone." shows how quickly things can go wrong on the road.
Officers hope this case reminds everyone that even a quick scroll or message can have life-changing consequences for you and others.
