Large scale discrepancies in Delhi pension scheme
Delhi's Women and Child Development Department just found that over 60,000 women getting the Widow Pension weren't actually eligible.
Since November 2023, Anganwadi workers have been going door-to-door to check if beneficiaries really qualify for the ₹2,500 monthly support meant for widowed or divorced women living in Delhi with low income.
Many beneficiaries didn't meet criteria
Many on the list had remarried but didn't update their status, some had jobs or higher incomes than allowed, and others had moved away.
Their names are now off the list to make sure only those who truly need help get it.
Cleanup is all about fairness
This cleanup is all about fairness—making sure government help goes to women who genuinely need it.
Officials are also reminding everyone to report any life changes (like remarriage) so the system stays honest and funds aren't wasted.
