Late monsoon leaves Mumbai lakes at 10.35% as BMC cuts
Mumbai's water shortage just got real, thanks to late monsoon rains, the city's main lakes are down to 10.35% capacity as of June 16.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the BMC, has slashed water supply by 20% for industrial and commercial establishments, as well as sports clubs, and 10% everywhere else.
New construction projects can't get water connections for now, and wasting drinking water could mean a penalty.
Residents and industries face water restrictions
Industries like Western Railway, BPCL, and HPCL have to switch to recycled or treated sewage water.
Packaged drinking water plants only get enough for their staff, and all swimming pools are off the main grid.
Residents can't use tap water for washing cars or gardening: borewells or wells are the way to go until the rains finally show up.
