Leopard drags boy into field in Bahraich, villagers protest
A seven- or eight-year-old boy, Raghuveer Patwa, lost his life after a leopard attacked him while he was playing outside his home in Azamgarh Purwa village, Bahraich district.
The animal dragged him into a nearby field (reported variously as sugarcane and wheat) before villagers managed to scare it off.
Sadly, doctors at the local health center could only confirm his death due to severe neck injuries.
Family to get ₹5 lakh compensation
Shaken by the incident, villagers blocked roads in protest and blamed frequent evening power cuts for rising leopard attacks.
Forest officials assured them that monitoring teams are being deployed and confirmed the attack was by a leopard based on evidence at the scene.
The family received immediate aid of ₹10,000 and will get ₹5 lakh compensation soon; police have also been stationed in the area for added security.
