Leopard kills 5-year-old girl in J&K's Anantnag
A heartbreaking incident shook Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, as a five-year-old girl named Sumiya Jan was killed by a leopard outside her home on Wednesday evening.
The animal dragged her into nearby bushes, prompting a search by police and forest officials.
Her body was recovered after the search that evening.
Community on edge after attack
The tragedy happened while Sumiya was outside her home in Khiram Srigufwara.
Locals say leopard sightings have become more common lately, leaving families worried for their safety.
Thankfully, no one else was hurt this time.
Leaders respond; search for leopard underway
Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, visited the grieving family and spoke about the growing human-animal conflict in the area.
Forest teams are now working to track down the leopard involved, and police have taken cognizance of the incident and further proceedings are underway.
