Mehbooba Mufti: News
Mehbooba Mufti is a politician of the Jammu & Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir. She is the daughter of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the former Home Minister of India and Chief Minister of J&K state. Mufti entered politics through the Indian National Congress (INC), of which her father too was a member. In the 1996 J&K elections, she got elected for the first time to the State Assembly from Bijbehara. In 1999, Mehbooba’s father founded the PDP. Mufti was elected to the J&K Assembly in 2002 from Pahalgam. She became MP for the first time from Anantnag in 2004 and was re-elected in 2014. After the 2014 J&K elections, PDP and BJP came together in an unusual alliance with Mufti’s father becoming the Chief Minister. In 2016 however, he passed away, and Mehbooba took over as CM, becoming the first woman in the state to hold the office. In 2018, the fissures in the BJP-PDP alliance widened, and the government collapsed, forcing Mufti to resign from the post. https://twitter.com/mehboobamufti
