The annual Hindu pilgrimage, Amarnath Yatra is held between July and August. It occurs when the iced stalagmite Shiva lingam reaches the top of its waxing phase through the summer months. The Yatra is taken by pilgrims to the 130 feet high glacial Amarnath cave shrine of iced stalagmite Shiva linga at 12,756 feet in the Himalayas.
