Manoj Sinha is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician, three-time Lok Sabha Member of Parliament, and Lt Governor of the Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory. Sinha did BTech and MTech from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, earlier called Institute of Technology, BHU. He was an ABVP student leader and the President of Banaras Hindu University Students Union in 1982. Sinha was a member of the BJP National Council from 1989 to 1996. He successfully contested the 1996 Lok Sabha elections from Ghazipur constituency in Uttar Pradesh and became MP for the first time. In 1999, he was re-elected and served a full term till 2004. Sinha was elected to the Lok Sabha for a third term in 2014 when BJP swept the country in the General Elections held that year. He served as Minister of State (MoS) for Railways from 2014 to 2019 and MoS (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Communications from 2016 to 2019. He lost from Ghazipur in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Sinha was appointed as the Lt. Governor of the Jammu & Kashmir UT in August 2020.
