Kapil Sibal is an Indian National Congress (INC) politician, author, poet, and senior advocate practicing in the Supreme Court of India. He did his graduation in History from St. Stephen's College and LLB from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. He completed his LLM from Harvard Law School, USA. Despite qualifying for the IAS, Sibal chose to pursue a career in law. In 1983, he was designated as Senior Advocate and was appointed as the Additional Solicitor General of India in 1989-90. He served as the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association three times, during 1995-96, 1997-98, and 2001-02. Sibal entered politics with his nomination to the Rajya Sabha in 1998 as a Congress candidate. In the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he successfully contested from the Chandni Chowk constituency. He served as Minister for Science & Technology (2004-09); Earth Sciences (2006-09); Human Resource Development (2009-12); Communications & Information Technology (2011-14); and Law & Justice (2013-14) during the UPA regime. In the 2014 General Elections, Sibal was defeated by BJP’s Harsh Vardhan in the Chandni Chowk constituency. Sibal is a member of the Rajya Sabha since 2016 from Uttar Pradesh.
