Madurai nurse killed by father, brother after rejecting arranged marriage

In Madurai, 24-year-old nurse R Priyanka was allegedly murdered by her father and brother after she refused an arranged engagement and chose to be with someone else from the same caste.
Her family didn't support her decision, so she left home and was staying in a shelter after informing police she was unwilling to return to her family.

Police arrest father; search on for brother

On December 20, Priyanka's father and brother took her from the shelter to her sister's house, where she was reportedly locked in a room and stabbed multiple times. She died two days later in hospital.
Police have arrested her father Ramesh while a search is still on for her brother Balamurugan.
The case has now been upgraded to murder as investigations continue.
