Maharashtra policy keeps retired police dogs with handlers, covers care
India
Maharashtra just rolled out a new policy to give retired police dogs the retirement they deserve.
Instead of being sent away, dogs who have served 10 years will now stay with their longtime handlers, and the state will cover all their food, veterinary bills, and daily needs.
Earlier separations left retired dogs stressed
Earlier, retired police dogs were separated from their handlers, which often left them stressed or withdrawn.
With this change, these loyal pups get to stick with familiar faces and routines.
As Chief Minister Fadnavis put it, after a decade of service, these dogs should spend their golden years in comfort and with people they trust.
