Manoj Jarange-Patil to begin indefinite hunger strike demanding Kunbi certificates
Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange-Patil is kicking off an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on September 19.
He is demanding Kunbi caste certificates for the Maratha community, which would open up job and education quotas.
This move follows his ongoing indefinite hunger strike since August 29, 2026, where he called out the government for not acting on its promises about reservations.
Jarange-Patil to march to Mumbai
Before the hunger strike starts, Jarange-Patil and his supporters will march to Mumbai beginning September 15, passing through five cities across Maharashtra and covering about 100km each day.
He is urging everyone to stay calm during the protest: "Do not resort to stone pelting no matter what the action is from the other side," he said, and has asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to make sure their march is not blocked.
