NEET results: Bihar girl Kalpana Kumari secures AIR 1

The results of NEET were announced a short while ago and the tough examination was topped by Kalpana Kumari, from Bihar, who secured 99.99 percentile. She scored 691 out of 720. Her marks break-up is 171/180 in Physics, 160/180 in Chemistry, 360/360 in Biology and Zoology. Over 13 lakh candidates appeared for the examination that was held across centres on May 6.

Telangana's Rohan Purohit scores just one mark less than Kalpana

Rohan Purohit from Telangana took the second spot by scoring 690 marks. Delhi's Himanshu Sharma also scored the same but settled for AIR 3. Delhi's Aarosh Dhamija got AIR 4 by securing 686 marks.

Son of medical store owner from Rajasthan secures AIR 5

17-year-old Prince Chaudhary of Rajasthan's Barmer, whose father owns a medical shop, clinched AIR 5 by securing 686 out of 720 marks. But he seemed disappointed. "I was expecting a better AIR in NEET but a wrong answer to a question reduced my score and rank," Chaudhry said. By scoring 685 marks out of 720, Agrawal Krishna Ashish secured All India Rank 7.

Interestingly, the cut-offs are lower than last year

For the general category, the cut off is 119 marks. Last year it was 107. The cut off for other categories, (SC/ST/OBC) is 96, as compared to last year's 107. Out of 13,26,725 candidates, 5,80,648 were male and 7,46,076 females. There was only 1 transgender candidate. 1,842 NRI candidates appeared for the examination and 621 were foreigners.

    What does qualifying NEET mean

The students who clear NEET can take admission in colleges approved by Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India. The courses include MBBS, BDS, MD or MS. The examination was conducted in Hindi, English, Urdu, Gujarati, Marathi, Oriya, Bengali, Assamese, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada.

Now, that results are declared, counselling is the next stop

As per reports, 634,897 candidates cleared the exam in general category. But, not everyone will get admission. Medical Council of India will begin counselling of students for 15% seats meant for All India Quota. The state authorities at their level will conduct counselling for the rest 85% seats, which fall under their quota. Stay tuned for more updates.
