Most AI-171 families accepted Tata Group 1cr payout, some refuse
Following the devastating Air India AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad last year, which claimed 260 lives, most families have accepted the ₹1 crore ex gratia payment offered by Tata Group.
Still, a few families have turned down the payment or have not collected their loved ones' belongings, mainly because of ongoing grief or complicated legal situations.
Families await probe, 22,000+ belongings preserved
Many are finding it tough to even talk about money while still processing their loss. Some want to wait for the final crash investigation before making any decisions.
On top of that, more than 22,000 personal items from the crash were cataloged and preserved; for some, these things bring comfort, but for others, they are just too painful to face right now.
Tata Group and Air India say they will keep supporting families as they work through these difficult choices.
