Mumbai begins water restrictions June 17 after reservoirs hit 10.35%
Mumbai has new water restrictions starting June 17 because the rains are taking their time and reservoir levels have dropped to 10.35% of usable capacity.
The city needs more water than it actually has right now, so the BMC is stepping in to stretch supplies and make sure there's enough drinking water for everyone.
BMC cuts municipal water to sectors
Water supply is being cut off for ongoing construction projects, and no new connections will be given.
Swimming pools won't get municipal water, and industries, commercial spaces, and sports clubs face a 20% cut.
Even beverage bottling plants will only get enough for workers' drinking needs.
The BMC is also asking citizens and establishments to use borewell or well water for things like washing vehicles, watering gardens, and cleaning roads or premises, and several large organizations to increase the use of treated wastewater for operational and secondary purposes, and warns that misusing water could lead to legal trouble until the monsoon fills up those reservoirs again.
