Mumbai CBI court to rule June 20 in Nimbalkar murder
A Mumbai CBI court is set to announce its verdict on June 20 in the long-running case about the 2006 murder of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar.
The main accused, former NCP MP Padamsinh Patil, is alleged to have planned the killing owing to political and business rivalry.
Judge Satyanarayan Navandar postponed today's hearing, saying he needed more time to wrap up the judgment.
CBI says Padamsinh Patil hired killers
The CBI says former NCP MP Padamsinh Patil hired contract killers to murder Nimbalkar and his driver Samad Kazi.
According to case records, Satish Mandade and Mohan Shukla gave a ₹30 lakh contract to Parasmal Jain to kill Nimbalkar.
The investigation took off after Nimbalkar's wife raised concerns about the progress of the investigation, leading to Patil's arrest in 2009 (he later got bail).
Over the years, several witnesses testified, including activist Anna Hazare, who told the court he'd been threatened by Patil after learning his name was also on Patil's hit list.
