Mumbai court convicts 3 in Pawanraje Nimbalkar murder case
After a trial that stretched over 15 years, a Mumbai court has found three men guilty of murdering Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar.
The case centered on political rivalry: investigators say former minister Padmasinh Patil paid ₹35 lakh to have Nimbalkar killed over disputes tied to the Terna Sugar Factory.
Nimbalkar and his driver were wounded in their car back in 2006, and the investigation even uncovered a separate plan to target activist Anna Hazare.
Omraje Nimbalkar demands death penalty
Omraje Nimbalkar, who has been seeking justice for 20 years, is now calling for the death penalty.
"I have faith in the Indian judicial system. We have pursued this case for 20 years on the strength of that faith," he said, reflecting on years of delays and missed court dates by the accused.
Today, June 20, 2026, the Sessions Court in Mumbai has delivered its verdict in the Pawanraje Nimbalkar murder case.
