Mumbai: Man pushes student off moving train in attempted murder

India

On Thursday morning, a 50-year-old man named Shaikh Akhtar Nawaz allegedly pushed 18-year-old college student Mahadik off a moving local train in Mumbai.
Nawaz had entered the ladies' coach of the Panvel-CSMT train and refused to leave when asked by commuters.
The argument quickly turned physical, ending with Mahadik being pushed near Panvel station—for which police arrested him on charges of attempted murder.

What happened next?

Fellow passengers acted fast, alerting the railway helpline right after the incident.
Government Railway Police caught Nawaz at Khandeshwar station and arrested him for attempted murder.
Mahadik was taken to a private hospital; while she didn't have serious external injuries, doctors ran several scans and kept her under observation after she developed a mild fever.
Authorities later found Nawaz disoriented and mentally disturbed—he claimed he was homeless, so police are now trying to find his family.
