Mumbai Metro-3 to start operations on October 8: Know more

India

Mumbai Metro-3 (the Aqua Line) is a brand-new, 33.5km underground metro connecting South Mumbai with the suburbs.
After years of digging under busy streets and historic buildings, it's finally set for a full launch on October 8, 2025—making commutes between hotspots like Cuffe Parade and BKC way easier.

Why did it take so long?

Building this line wasn't simple. Engineers had to tunnel through tough rock, waterlogged soil, and even near the Mithi river—all while protecting heritage sites and dealing with crowded markets and slums.
Delays from monsoons, legal hurdles, and the pandemic didn't help either.

Metro-3 will serve over 1 million commuters daily

Metro-3 will slash travel time between Cuffe Parade and Aarey from over 90 minutes by road to about 54 minutes by metro.
Aiming to serve around 1.3 million people daily—meaning less traffic chaos above ground and smoother rides across the city.
