Mumbai-Pune Expressway II: Travel time slashed, big upgrades coming
Big news for Maharashtra's roads—Union Minister Nitin Gadkari just announced a ₹1.5 lakh crore package to upgrade highways and expressways by 2026.
The highlight? Mumbai-Pune Expressway II, which will cut the drive between the two cities from three hours to just 90 minutes.
Why does this matter?
If you've ever dreaded the Mumbai-Pune commute, this new 130km expressway is set to make life way easier. It'll run alongside the current route and also speed up trips from Mumbai to Bengaluru via Pune—down to about 5.5 hours.
Pune district is getting a major chunk of investment (nearly ₹50,000 crore), with work starting within three months after local elections.
There are also plans for new elevated corridors and better freight links, so expect smoother travel and faster deliveries across western India.
What's in it for you?
Whether you're road-tripping, heading home for festivals, or waiting on an online order—these upgrades mean less time stuck in traffic and more time doing what matters to you.
