Mumbai reservoirs at 9.34% capacity with Upper Vaitarna at 0
Mumbai is dealing with a tough water shortage right now; the monsoon rains have been missing for over a week, and the city's seven main reservoirs are down to just 9.34% of their total capacity.
That's even lower than last year, and Upper Vaitarna's available useful stock is recorded as zero.
Bhatsa, which held 61,888 million litres—nearly 46% of all the useful water available across the seven-reservoir system, is also under stress.
Monsoon stall threatens Mumbai water
The southwest monsoon stalled from June 12 through June 19, nearly four billion liters of water are lost every day without being replaced.
Satellite images from Europe's Copernicus program actually show the shrinking shorelines of these lakes.
If steady rain doesn't arrive soon in the catchment areas, Mumbai could be facing even tougher days ahead.
