Mumbaikars, get ready for underground tunnels to ease traffic
India
Big news for Mumbai commuters: the city is planning a huge 70km underground tunnel system as part of the "Mumbai in Minutes" vision.
The goal is to finally cut down traffic jams by connecting hotspots like the Coastal Road, BKC, the High-Speed Rail Corridor, and the airport.
MMRDA is already working on a detailed plan to make this happen.
Breaking down the phases of the project
The project will happen in three phases. First up: a 16km stretch integrating the Worli Sea Link, BKC, and the airport with the high-speed rail corridor.
Next comes a 10km East-West corridor, followed by a major 44km North-South route.
With consultants now on board and planning underway, Mumbai's underground commute could look very different soon.
