NHAI invites bids for 3,184cr 20km Varanasi bypass linking NH-19
India
Varanasi is getting a major traffic upgrade: the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids for a 3,184-crore-rupee, 20-kilometer corridor linking NH-19 to the Ring Road along the Ganga.
This new bypass will let vehicles traveling on NH-19, including through-traffic and freight vehicles, skip the city center, aiming to finally give some relief to those packed, narrow roads.
Corridor expected to ease riverfront access
The corridor should cut down travel time and make it easier for tourists and pilgrims to reach riverfront spots.
It's also expected to boost local business and open up space for future riverfront development, all while helping reduce pollution in PM Modi's own constituency.
