No more photocopying Aadhaar cards—UIDAI rolls out digital-only checks

India

Soon, you won't be able to hand over a photocopy of your Aadhaar card anymore.
UIDAI is set to ban the collection and storage of physical copies to boost privacy, so hotels and event venues will soon have to stop collecting or storing them.
Instead, they will need to use digital verification by registering with UIDAI.

Here's what's changing (and why it matters)

A new system is coming in: think QR code scans and a fresh Aadhaar app that makes offline ID checks quick and paper-free.
The app (currently in beta) lets you upload address proof and even add family members who don't have mobile phones.
You'll see this at places like airports or stores selling age-restricted stuff—making things more secure and way easier for everyone, all while keeping your data safer under the new privacy rules.
