No MPs harmed in Delhi apartment fire; probe to begin

India

A major fire broke out on Saturday at Brahmaputra Apartments in New Delhi, where many MPs live.
Flames erupted in the ground floor parking/stilt area around 1:22pm causing panic and leading to the evacuation of residents.
Two people and a pet dog were injured, but thankfully there were no deaths.
Firefighters managed to control the blaze in under an hour with 14 fire tenders.

Residents demand compensation, safety measures

With residents safely evacuated, officials say the probe into what caused the fire will start after Deepavali.
Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale claimed non-working alarms and extinguishers made things worse—something that's left many shaken.
On Sunday, residents held a sit-in protest outside the complex demanding compensation and stronger safety measures.
The Central Public Works Department is now under scrutiny for its preparedness, while opposition parties are calling out Delhi's government over emergency response failures.
