No toll tax for 2-wheelers on national highways
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has cleared the air: there's no plan to charge toll tax on two-wheelers.
He called out recent media reports as misleading, saying, "No such decision has been proposed. The exemption on toll for two-wheeler vehicles will continue fully."
Why bikes are exempt from paying tolls
Two-wheelers have always been exempt from paying tolls on national highways—mainly to help those who rely on them and keep traffic moving smoothly.
Despite rumors about a new toll from July 2025, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) says there's no such proposal.
For safety reasons, bikes are also not allowed on expressways like Mumbai-Pune.
Minister slams 'unhealthy journalism'
He criticized the false reports as unhealthy journalism.
On another note: from August 15, private vehicle owners can get a FASTag annual pass for ₹3,000—good for up to 200 trips or one year.
