Odisha: 14-year-old killed after hostel fight, 3 classmates arrested
At Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar, a 14-year-old tribal student, Siba Munda, was allegedly murdered by three classmates after an argument over spilled dal in the hostel washroom.
The boys reportedly assaulted and strangled him.
While the school initially claimed Siba slipped in the bathroom, a post-mortem confirmed he died from homicidal violence.
Investigation and fallout
Siba's family noticed marks on his neck and accused the school of hiding medical records and skipping a post-mortem at first, sparking protests.
Police have detained three minor suspects and sent them to a correctional home.
Multiple KISS staff—including senior officials—were detained or arrested for allegedly threatening witnesses and hiding evidence, with some reports stating up to eight officials were involved.
The Odisha child rights commission has ordered an independent probe and warned of strict action against anyone found guilty.
