Odisha government revises Maoist surrender scheme, increases cash rewards

India

Odisha has just updated its surrender policy for Maoists, making it more rewarding to lay down arms.
Now, those who give up can get between ₹2.5 lakh and ₹5 lakh—top leaders like Politburo members are eligible for the highest amount.
The move aims to encourage more operatives to leave the insurgency.

More than just cash: extra perks and support

Along with cash, surrendered Maoists get a chunk upfront and the rest in fixed deposits.
There are big bonuses for handing over weapons—₹4.95 lakh for a light machine gun or ₹3.3 lakh for an AK-47.
Plus, there's help with housing, marriage incentives, subsidized food rations, healthcare, vocational training, and even a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 for up to three years if they cooperate fully with authorities.
About 80-85 Maoists are still active in Odisha right now.
