Odisha government school textbooks carry 1,678 errors after distribution
Odisha's government school textbooks for Classes I to VIII have been found to contain a whopping 1,678 errors: everything from simple spelling slip-ups to mixing up facts and places.
These mistakes came to light after the books were already handed out for the 2026-27 school year.
SCERT NEP 2020 textbooks prompt corrections
The textbooks were put together under NEP 2020 reforms by SCERT, but some errors were pretty wild, like calling Sir Isaac Newton a "pilot" or confusing Hampi with Konark Sun Temple.
There were also mix-ups in geography and science, such as swapping "equinox" with "equator."
Officials say these mistakes happened because of rushed timelines.
Corrections have now been sent out, and the department promises better checks so students aren't left confused in the future.
