Odisha shivers as cold wave grips state

India

Odisha is in the middle of a harsh cold wave, with temperatures dipping below 10°C in 15 places across 11 districts.
Semiliguda recorded 6.2°C as of December 10, 2025, and even Bhubaneswar dropped to 13°C—almost 10 degrees lower than just 10 days ago.
The IMD says the freezing weather and dense fog will stick around for at least two more days.

Why does this matter?

The cold snap has made life tough for many—especially those without homes, who are relying on fires to stay warm at night.
The chill has also hurt crops like vegetables and bananas, plus there are reports of fish and birds dying from the extreme weather.
Local authorities are stepping up by opening extra night shelters and handing out blankets to help people get through this rough patch.
